Maine is sly creature when it comes to weather, wouldn’t you say? It can go from 50% to 90% in 24 hours and then back forth in a matter of days. Right now we are in the 90%’s with 100% humidity. I have been loving every moment of this stretch. My boys? Notsomuch.
Alec was pretty happy today that his babysitter’s parents have a pool. He spent part of the day there- soaking up the fun.
Once I was home from work- it was beach time baby! We hit the beach around 3pm when the tide (and the tourists) were on the way out.
Freedom!
We looked around from friends but didn’t see anyone we knew so we just chilled together jumping the waves and relaxing. After a little while, Alec couldn’t take it anymore and had to go to the rocks.
And we found all kinds of fun stuff as the tide continued to go out out.
He even found some friends from school so that was pretty cool. He saw some a classmates and this boy who came running over saying “hey-I know you”. Apparently they did know each other but Alec had no idea what his name was… (typical).
Again, kind of like when he was fishing with my dad, I have to take pause at how large Alec’s friend world is becoming without me.
After quite a while of crab hunting -he slipped and fell on the barnacles and cut his leg. That hurts! He decided he had enough and wanted to go home.
But then Dad arrived and magically everything was all better again….
And back to the rocks they went. And spent lots more time… and found a sponge! It was really cool.
At about 6:15- I cried uncle and went home to find some dinner. They stayed until 7:30. Erik said they would have stayed later but it started to sprinkle.
I wish I had taken a picture as I was leaving. There is just something I absolutely love about watching Alec (and Erik) at the beach in the evening light.
It’s a magically, summer feeling all bottled into happiness.
Lucky Alec- pool time- and 4.5 hours on the beach. I would have sold my soul to have that when I was younger.
I hope he looks back and knows how lucky he is.
