Alec’s Birthday Part II

This is how Alec spent his birthday.

002

050

Poor thing sucked up another bad germ and spent his entire birthday weekend fighting a high fever (104’s). Tylenol and Advil would touch it enough to bring it down (101) and him around for a while to play but once the drugs starting leaving his system – it would pop back up again and bring him to a halt. When we brought him in to the doctor they were pretty sure it was strep but the ‘long’ test came back negative. Don’t even get me going about the short 5 minute test. I know of no one that has ever gotten a positive on that one. Do you know of anyone? Prove me wrong. ……

I digress…back to the long test…so that came back negative. Alec had also been complaining of a headache in the back of his head and in his neck. At this point  (it’s 48 hrs later and Monday morning)they advised us to take him to the ER to have him check for meningitis. I did say to the nurse..wouldn’t it be getting worse not better if it were meningitis..she agreed but though it might be best to test anyway.  I had my doubts and instead went with my gut.  Since the fever was going down slowly..very S L O W L Y..we waited.

I am happy to report that although he is still wiped…he was 99.8 this morning sans any drugs. Wahooo.   But now his nose is running and his ear is plugged.

Who wants to place bets on an ear infection? Anyone? Anyone?

Poor kid deserves a birthday weekend ‘do-over’.

Alec’s Birthday Part I

We celebrated Alec’s birthday a few days early (which we came to find out- was a great thing).

I had grand plans of making a construction hat cake –bought the yellow fondant and everything –I was ready but I ended up working late and I ran out of time.  So here is what I came up with.  Not too shabby for a last minute deal huh?

007

We did a little decorating.

002

I was thrilled when I remembered to get the chocolates that look rocks.  The kids thought they were pretty neat!

Ben decided he was going for the cake…fork and all!

We played put the orange cone by the digger (think pin the tail on the donkey). Even Nanny. Blindfold and all.

We opened some presents after…

Ben really like the binoculars. Even backwards.

Debbie- see the expression?

It was a good night. Thanks for all who shared it with us.

Sun…glorious sun!

After so many wet, dreary days the sun finally descended upon us and we soaked up every last ounce of it.

003

I just love that picture. The freedom of 2 little ones holding hands off to find an adventure. .

050

And when your clothes get wet from the stream…you rock-out in this outfit. Sweet huh?

062

No one can pull off the smoldering pout as well as Fay. She’s nailed it.

074

Everything tastes so much better when the sun is shining.

077

And because you may be wondering why Alec is wearing the life vest….there was a pool involved..that has 2 inches of water in it. Being the great mother I am – I kept encouraging him to take it off but I think he thought it was cool. Or maybe he was missing his construction vest.

066

An unfortunate event happened after this picture. Alec pulled the trigger and got Mya right in the face. Poor Mya…that was a shock to her little unsuspecting system.

This is where I end the pictures of our afternoon not because our afternoon ended but because wearing clothes ended. They enjoyed the sun to the fullest!

Augusta Children’s Museum

On our way home from Old Town we stopped at the Children’s Museum in Augusta. It was the smallest one we have ever been to. It was only 1 room! It was also the smelliest one too. But, big, small, or smelly when you have construction equipment, it’s considered a big hit!

And there you have it.  After using a gallon of hand sanitizer we can now check this off our ‘to do’ list.  Clearly you can tell I would not recommend this one. I think Bangor is still my favorite with Boston coming in a close second. Cause that’s what I do these days. I rate Children’s Museums.  I use to rate restaurants in the greater Portland area. My, how things have changed. For the better.
