Busy Boys

Sunday afternoon Ben came to spend sometime with Alec and I so the adults (sans me) could go see Hunger Games. I kind of refused to go. I haven’t read the books yet and I just don’t want to ruin them by watching the movie. Books are always better. The ironic part is that I have steadfastly refused to read them (kids killing kids oh my!) so who really cares if I ruin them?! But I held firm and played with the boys instead.

We did some coloring.. they were making a book. Alec was gluing the pages together and Ben was drawing whatever Alec directed him to do. Alec had his bossy pants on. That is one pair of pants I can not wait for him to outgrow! They never did finish the book so I am not sue what it was about.

We played swords quite a bit but then I got ‘hurt’ and forced to myself to lay on the couch for a while.  :) They got out the doctor stuff and helped me get better. I had ticks in my hair (about 20), a broken leg, they were able to see my insides with the binoculars and saw that I was the old lady who swallowed a fly (cute kids huh?) and had some broken ribs that magically healed with the SuperWhy wand. Phew!

After I was up and about again we pulled out the blocks. I knew it was a stretch with these two to sit quietly playing with blocks but after a few minutes they settled in for a while.

Below is Alec’s building of Deepwater Horizon (the oil rig)- he made this so when he knocked it down it would be like the oil rig was exploding.

017

Ben was building and I will directly quote him here “something I like”.

After that- it was controlled ciaos again. They spent the remainder of the time chasing each other around with swords.

They are busy boys! :)

MacWorth Island Walk

Last Saturday we ventured up to MacWorth Island in Falmouth for a little walk. After a week of such warm weather and sunny days- this day just couldn’t compare. The weather was still in the high 50’s may even low 60’s but without the pretty sun it just seemed a little bleak. It was a good family walk- I don’t think Erik had done this one with us before. Alec and I have our own way we take walks and it is always interesting to see how others integrate in with us. Alec and I are kind of pokey….Alec runs ahead and then runs back and I let him stop and explore and actually try to slow him down to make sure that he takes notice of the things around him. Erik is not pokey and since Alec runs far ahead of us- Erik was trying to keep up with him. Needless to say- it was a quick walk.

Opposites may attract but they also frustrate each other.  :)

We did build a fairy house. Alec took on Erik’s personality and became the project manager. He had Erik moving logs and all sorts of things to design his fairy house.

2 thumbs up in our family.

Playground days

Last Tuesday, after gymnastics, we went with our gymnastic friends (McKenna & Kiley) to the playground. Alec is a lucky little man to have so many nice, lovely little ladies in his life.

And, of course…

The weather was impeccable.

God is out shopping

Alec: (while looking up at the sky) –”It’s not very cloudy. Where do you think God is? I don’t see him. Do you think he’s out shopping'?”

ME: “Shopping?”

Alec: “Do you see him? Cause I don’t. So what else would he be doing?  He made the world and then he said ‘let there be light’. Grump told me that. I bet he’s shopping.”

There you have it.

God is out shopping.

FBSP

Continuing on with the weather is awesome theme.

Friday afternoon we grabbed Ben and Noelle for a walk at Ferry Beach State Park. It was in the high 70’s –no clouds, slight breeze, no bugs and perfectly perfect.

Seriously.

The weather was darn near perfect not only for March but just plain perfect. Anytime of the year perfect.

Beach Day

In March in Maine. 86% on March 21st in Maine- 3 weeks post 1foot of snow falling.

Crazy weather.

So, we did what any other Mainer would do in the situation. We took advantage and headed to the beach. We hardy types are not ones to look a gift horse in the mouth (odd that sayings like that sound appropriate until you type them..what does that mean anyway?).

Simple terms.

Pasty white people shed clothing and paid homage to the sun god.

Alec jumped out of the car and did not stop until he hit the rocks. He took off like a shot.  Ben is the little guy in green. Alec is white speck way off in the distance running parallel to the water – see him?

011 040 079 All winter long I complain to Erik that I want to move somewhere warm. Not being a skier I just don’t embrace winter well. And let’s face it- I like hockey but you can watch that anywhere. I just don’t like Maine in the winter.

And then spring hits (or a fake brief summer) and I am so thankful that somehow my boy gets the luxury of growing up 2 miles from the ocean.

That’s cool.

Go Gators!

The Gator fans in Alec’s life will appreciate this.

I picked Alec up from school the other day and as we are leaving and saying good-bye’s he yells “Hey Miss Fran.. GO GATORS!”

The puzzled look on her face was pretty funny. The fact he missed the social cue of her confusion was a little disturbing but funny nonetheless as he trotted off with no explanation to her. I just shrugged my shoulders because, well, I was little confused by the exclamation as well. Then she shrugged her shoulders back at me and we chuckled together because that’s just a typical Alec move for ya.

And if you are paying attention – yes, that is a new-to-us trampoline. He wore the old one out.

Playground

The weather has been so great lately we (and all other Mainers) are trying to take advantage it by spending every waking moment outside. We met up with Ben and Noelle after school on Monday to get some of the active boy energy out.

001004 011 014 018 017 019 2 hours later the boys were tired but the mom’s were exhausted! It is tiring ‘policing’ the antics of these boys!

Family Relations and Shaving Cream don’t mix

Somehow my mother had this idea (from one of my sisters maybe?) that if she was completely bored with Alec they would take out the shaving cream and play with it. Well, she never got the chance to do it with Alec but decided to pull it out while the Letourneau’s were here visiting on Sunday.  A brand new bottle of shaving cream just for the kids.

It all started out swell….

Then…I stopped taking pictures and decided to get involved.  One of my previous bosses use to describe me as the instigator (sometimes a good thing..sometimes not so much)…she was dead on … I could not resist that fluffy, fun stuff.

So I may have gone after Nick. Maybe. Just a little.

Then Adam got involved.

Good idea Mom!

It was fun for ALL the kids!

And yes…Erik twitched the ENTIRE time.

That was just an added bonus to the fun!
