Mom: Alec, you are such a goof-ball.
Alec: No mom, no I am not. I don’t roll.

Only it wasn’t Sunday and we are not the Carpenters. But it was a Wednesday and it finally rained enough for Alec to wear his new froggy raincoat to match his froggy boots.
And that was enough to make this young 3 year old VERY happy.
A few days ago Alec was taking a nap, peacefully sleeping, dreaming of all the wonderful things that 3 year olds dream of when in walks mean old mom who has decided that the young one had slept long enough so I opened his door and started vacuuming hoping the noise would walk him up. Because really- what fun is it to vacuum just to vacuum when you can vacuum AND wake some one up. Well, no such luck. Mean mom lifts shades and turns on all the lights. NOTHING. I walk back in and say ‘Alec –you need to wake up’..NOT A STIR. Well, it just so happens that they were doing road work directly in front of house so I walk into Alec’s room and say (in a completely normal tone) “Alec there is a cement mixer in front of the house” and I’ll be darned…didn’t that little boy roll over and right out of bed. He stumbled into the front bedroom with barely an eye open and proceeded to sit and watch the cement mixer. You tell me…are they born with selective hearing?
Really- I can’t make this stuff up.
On Sunday before we left Old Town, Julie called and asked Alec and I to meet them at Jason’s parents house in Bradley for a little while. Jason thought it would be fun to take Alec on the tractor and let him drive it. Alec was super psyched. He had the best time steering it around the yard.
He got to use the bucket and pick up dirt. (you can’t see his head because the chainsaw is in the way)
He even got to take a ride IN the bucket!
And got to go WAY up high!
I had not been to Jason’s parents house in years – it was good to visit with them and to take a trip down memory lane on my drive through Bradley to their house. All that tractor driving made Alec hungry so we went to Johnny’s Pizza for lunch. Now THAT was a serious trip down memory lane! The building is still the same and yet very different- a very silly statement and yet very true. But oddly the food was very good…now that’s something new!
While were in Old Town last weekend, Debbie and I took all the kids swimming at the rec pool. Of course I brought my camera but since I was getting in the water (ugh!) –I gave the photography job to Debbie. She took some really nice photo’s of the kids. It was fun but the water was oh-so-cold.

Cute Katie!
Happy Nick (with his birthday presents from us!)
Alec eating a cookie. YUM!
Just too cute not to put up!
We are going through a bit of a mourning period in our house. You see, Courtney, Noel and Leo left for their year in Nicaragua earlier this week. Alec misses his cousin and told Erik tonight that he was 'just very sad about Leo’.
After our morning with Thomas we drove into Boothbay Harbor for a late lunch and to walk around the village.
We ate lunch right on the water. The weather was perfect.
After lunch we walked around and then stopped for some ice cream. Yum! (Nana had no idea she was going to have to share hers!)
Some of us wear it well!
A little more walking (or running) to burn off the ice cream!
A beautiful day!
On Saturday Erik, Alec, Nana and I took a drive to Boothbay to the Boothbay Village Railway Museum to take a ride on Thomas the Train. The railroad museum is a really neat collection of old buildings they have restored to make into a village with a loop of tracks that takes you on a ride along the circumference of the village. I suspect that when it is not in it’s full Thomas regalia it is a pretty neat place to visit. I’ll admit I was bit hesitant to go – mass crowds of crazed toddlers all hyped up. Um…yeah….no. But it was great. There was enough to do to keep the masses of frantic toddlers spaced nicely while keeping said frantic toddlers AND adults engaged. Win-win!
While Alec does like Thomas – he is not obsessed- he’s just into trains of all kinds. He did think it was pretty neat that Thomas was pulling the train he got to ride on. We choose the little red caboose for our seats on the ride.
They had mini-tractor rides (you can see Thomas puffing along in the background)
Temporary Tattoo’s
Thomas bounce house- a tent to snack in and get out of the sun
You could meet Sir Topham Hat but Alec chose not to!
Some of the old restored buildings
There was a Hay Maze to explore.
They also had a tent set up for a children’s musician and puppet show which we stopped to enjoyed mostly because it gave us all an excuse to sit and rest out of the sun.
We went on a hayride (no pictures) and there were trains you play on and explore.
We spent some time walking through the antique car museum too.
We spent about 3 hours at the railway museum – it was the perfect amount of time. What a great day! Below is Alec waving goodbye to Thomas.
