Splashtown
Have I ever mentioned that Erik is a waterpark fanatic? Loves ‘em. I don’t mind the park so much –I just don’t enjoy the slides. I prefer to keep my bathing on me rather than having it in places where the sun doesn’t ever shine. If you have no idea what I mean- jump on a slide and then talk to me. :)
Erik took a day off last week so could take Alec on his 1st trip to Splashtown. Erik was so excited to share this adventure with Alec- it was almost like Christmas.
Alec? Well, he was happy Leo was going.
Turns out Alec loved it more than Aquaboggin. This makes me sad as Aquaboggin was our go-to place for waterpark fun for the past 4 years.
*sigh*
A new era has begun.
It also makes me sad cause at Aquaboggin I could buy a pool pass for $10 and use the pool and wave pool. Cheap enough for a days worth of sand free water fun. Splashtown has no such deal. Full price or nothin’ baby.
*sigh*
Alec is still not a huge fan of the slides but the big pirate water jungle gym thingy is what sold him on Splashtown. It really is the best set up for introducing the smaller kiddos to waterslides. The have all sorts at different heights and levels.
He also liked it because he was tall enough to stand and swim around in the big pool. He spent copious amounts of time just playing in the pool.
Yes, you guessed it. Phone pictures. I forgot to put the memory card back in my little red camera.
D’oh.

Lets Vote
I will set the scene for you- Sunday afternoon hanging around –Erik and Alec puttering outside –me inside. I hear Erik vacuuming the car. Then silence. Erik comes inside and says to me “I need to think of a good punishment for Alec”…I, of course want to know why “I gave him the spray paint to paint a board and well you have to go see it”
The evidence:
I walk back inside and say to Erik “ You think you need to punish Alec? Did you not hand a 5 year old a can of spray paint and them leave him unattended while you continued vacuuming the car?”
Erik (very sheepishly) “I told him not to spray the stand”.
Me: “Did you tell him NOT to spray anything else? “
Erik (pauses): “No”
Me: “And you think it is the 5 year old unattended with a can of spray paint that needs to be punished?”
I just stare at him and walk away. I find Alec.
“Alec, what did you do”
Alec: “I just wanted to make it all pretty”
Me: “Did Dad tell you not to paint anything but the board?”
Alec: “He told me not to paint the stand”
Me: “Did you?”
Alec “A little-. But he didn’t tell me not to paint anything else”
I rest my case.
And so, I ask you dear friends, who needs to get a good punishment?

Rides and Rides and more Rides
Some of the Kurlanska clan joined together in downtown Old Orchard Beach Saturday evening for an evening of rides and people watching. And, well, the usual Elvis sighting.
This is the first year we bought a bracelet for the kids. In the past it was tickets and when the tickets run out the evening is over. Not this time. It was rides galore. The probably rode rides for 4 hours. We dragged them away with promises of fried Oreos. It was after 11PM at this point. I sat down on a bench, Alec climbed into my lap and promptly fell asleep. He woke up enough to tell us not to eat his Oreo and then went back to sleep. He had his for breakfast the next morning. Breakfast of champions right there!
Katie happened to be down with her friends and she surprised Alec. His face lit up when he saw her. He loves his Kakie so.
The boys are growing up and it shows in their choice of rides. Katie offered to take Alec on the big roller coaster. And he was psyched. He was barely tall enough. See the little hand waving at me. And yes, this was how he was seated for the entire thing.
Leo saw that Alec was going on it and decided that he wanted in too. Katie’s friend Henna agreed to take Leo with her. I commented to Courtney that I am amazed the amount of trust Leo places in Alec’s decisions. I am not sure he really wanted to go but since Alec was – Leo was in.
How sweet it was that she took him on this ‘bigger’ roller coaster since Erik and I took her (and Adam) on their first “bigger’ roller coaster.
They didn’t like it their first time either!

Ricky C
Last week we rocked out to Ricky C down in OOB. His concert was held in the Seaside Pavilion run by The Salvation Army. It’s a nice open air theater. Open air is usually nice when the air is moving. There was no air moving and the humidity had to be at 97%. You blink and you generate a sweat.
Before the show started a lady came over and asked the boys if they wanted to go on stage for Alligator in the Elevator. Typical fashion Alec said ‘You bet’ and Leo said ‘no way’. And so it was.
When asked if he liked it- he said ‘it was hot up there’. And that was about it. Completely unfazed. What a neat experience for the boy!

Twins?
Leo stayed with us for the 4 days last week while Courtney and Noel take a little vacation before they move. Adding another boy of approximately the same age to our household has really not been a challenge. They both have their quirks. They both can drive me crazy. See? No different. The upside? A built in playmate and good bonding time with our nephew.
It is not uncommon when we are out for people to ask if they are twins. Really? Twins? These two?
We enjoyed our time with Leo. We are usually on the go seeking out new adventure but we decided to just let both boys have a few days of real down time where they were just home playing without too much of an agenda.
The sprinkler was ok for a while…
but then we pulled out the new super dooper, comes with a kitchen sink slip’n’slide that Alec got from Tiny &Wayne for his birthday. Yep it needs batteries. Nothing old school about this one.
Leo loved it.
Long after Alec was done with it and had moved on to his scooter or digging in the dirt- Leo stayed on it pulling his body along the mat or sitting in the little pool. I think the boy needs his very own.
I pulled it out a different day and Leo’s eyes lit up like it was Christmas. Alec immediately shucked all clothing and it took a stern voice to convince him to leave his underwear on. This kid loves to be naked. Leo? Not so much. He kept asking Alec if Alec wanted to go in and put their bathing suits on. In speaking with Courtney later, she said she was shocked that he actually did run around in his underwear as he is pretty modest. Such completely different children. Always at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Look at the air Leo got on this one. He surprised himself with it! It was too funny.
We took him swimming at Noelle and Aarons too. The boys had a blast.
“Look Mom! No hands"!”
Big step for Leo!
It was a good couple of days spending time with both boys and watching them have so much fun together. They do love each other!
