Happy Halloween

I am trying to write this blog as I run to answer the door for trick-or treaters so it may be a bit disjointed. You would think with all the festive things we have been doing we would have been ready for tonight but alas, spending all that time doing others things left little time for decorating, getting candy, changing our doorbell to the spooky sounds (it has like 64 different rings). So,  today after work I ran to Wal Mart to buy candy instead of working out before I picked up Alec.  I got delayed at pick up because they were about to beat open the gigantic pumpkin piƱata they had made.  Yet another toy and candyfest later and were on the road home.  I changed and ran down in the basement to grab the tote that has all the decorations. Our pumpkins did not survive this fall and Alec was thrilled to bring them to the compost pile. Much more excited about  delivering them to their future decomposing site than carving them. Crazy kid. So, I pulled out the plastic, pre-carved, Target clearance  jack-o-lanterns and plugged them in. (And yes, we have a fake christmas tree too.)   I threw Mr. Bones on the door and dumped the candy in a bowl and we were out the door to do a drive by at Nanny’s before it got too late and then we ran down the street for dinner with Ben, Noelle and Aaron.  We made jack-o-lantern English muffin pizzas.  Then kids started coming to Noelle’s house so I ran home to hand out candy and Erik, Noelle and Aaron are taking Ben and Alec around the neighborhood.  I took a bye this year. I draw a line when there is snow on the ground. Seriously. We took a picture of Alec in costume standing next to his snowman. There is something wrong with that. Very.

They just stopped by and I gave the boys glow-stick swords instead of candy. I am not sure which is worse with the 2 of them…weapons or sugar. The combination of  both might prove to be enough to test the patience of any sane (or even insane) adult.   They boys are off the charts hyped up. Have fun Erik, Noelle and Aaron!

Ahhh….better them than me.

I am off to pillage the candy bowl and read my book.  :)

Random from Alec

On Tuesday, driving home from Aunt Hil and Uncle Tom’s house, Alec asked me “What part of water is used to help blood regenerate?

To Shania this morning while petting her “Now remember to empty all of your bladder”.

Some others we’ve hashed lately…..

Who decided what we should name the world?

Does God have a cape?

Does God have a car?

Why doesn’t Heather have a job? (She does..she is staying home taking care of baby Marshall) When is she going to get a real job? Is Jack o.k. with that? YIKES!

Is Pepsi (our old cat) in Heaven’s garage?

Why doesn’t the water run out at Niagara Falls? How did start falling? Why does it fall?

Why do we have lips? What do they do?

Why is GG 98?

Why does Nanny love to use peroxide on everything?

Why do I have to wait until I’m 16 to get my license? Why don’t I need a license for my John Deere?

Why did Grump loose all his hair?

Does God have wand?

Why is God indivisible?

If you get arrested-can I visit you in jail? clearly he is hoping

Why did Jesus die?

Discuss amongst yourselves.

Fright Night

Friday night was Fright Night at the Y.   Erik and I decided to ‘do it up’ right and brought Ben with us to keep Alec company. The first part of the evening (leaving the house and driving to Biddeford) consisted of  Alec throwing a MAJOR temper tantrum about ?. Yep we are not sure what the catalyst was or why it continued.  Had we not already made plans with Ben we would have never step foot out the door.  Listening to Alec meltdown gave Erik and I the same feeling as listening to someone scrape their nails over a chalkboard. Ben had some funny commentary on Alec’s meltdown which brought us a few moments of levity.  Ben kept asking Alec why he was crying and then telling him to ‘be quiet Alec’.  We stopped for dinner at McD.  Only quality foods for these children. :)  And  finally the beast was quieted.  Very well could have been the MacRoy hunger meltdown. It’s not pretty folks.

And then off to Fright Night. We got lucky this year because the weather was down right balmy. It was freezing last year! This event is free to the public and the public showed up for it! Parking was mayhem  but once parked it was smooth sailing.  We got the boys costumed up:

And we were off! 1st stop was to waiting in line for the hayride.  They hayride pulls you to the upper parking lot where the ‘trunk-or-treating’ was happening and then from there you loop through the spooky woods back to the other side of the Y for games, roasting marshmallows and crafts.  Trunk-or treating is the where the businesses decorate their car trunks and hand out candy.  We saw lots of Alec’s teachers there and even his gymnastics coach from Dudziaks . Big smiles for coach Dan!  The boys made it through the spooky woods like champs. I wasn’t so sure they would at first but they rallied. Phew!  We walked through the game area but never played any because it was too crowded. And the crafts? These boys were out for adventure..not crafts.  We walked into the craft room but it was in an exercise room with mirrors – the boys only had eyes for themselves. They spent most of the time watching themselves doing Spiderman moves. And so we moved on….046

As we were walking back to the car Erik and I both commented that we were glad we had gone.   It ended up being a pretty fun and spoooooky night!

Harvestfest

What a difference from last year!  We had a great day – we met up with our friends and a fun day. Last year it was just us and super cold. This year friends and sun.  Not to be a cheerleader but yay! So many cute kids with us and I took too many cute pictures.
