While my one of my sisters and her family were cruising the western Caribbean with my parents…having a lovely vacation I imagine…..the MacRoy-Kurlanska’s were having our own heck of a week. And not in a good way. It all started last week after the Red Claws game….Alec had the 24 hour stomach flu (Sunday to Monday) which was not really a surprise because I had walked into daycare to pick him the week before and a young boy his class was barfing. Lovely. Then he got a bruised eye at daycare (Tuesday). We are not sure what happened. The teacher did not see it and Alec did not cry but the best we can glean is that someone tripped and fell into the teeter-totter which came up and hit him in the eye. Just call him bruiser. Erik sprained his ankle (Monday) by missing a step to the garage while taking out the recycling. Bummer- bad things happen while trying to be a good person. That’ll learn ya! Next he got the 24 hour stomach flu (Tuesday to Wednesday) and went on call for the week (Wednesday) which means he had to go into work while while walking around on/in an air cast and finishing up the tail end of the flu. Tail end….if you get my drift….. Me? I got the “24” hour stomach flu on Thanksgiving and it lasted 48 hours…with no relief…..and I am still having my own ‘tail end of it’. And will probably not eat a turkey dinner again for many years.
It was not a pretty week folks.
And here is what happens when mom is down for the count for a couple days…Dad’s amazing ‘dressing’ skillz come out! And yes, they did go out in public like that! What you can’t tell is that these pants (which were Erik’s when he was young) are 100% polyester. Sweet.
And while we are thankful for all the blessings in our life….right now we are just VERY thankful the week is over.
We broke out of the norm the other night and actually stayed out past dark. Incredible! We ventured into Portland (the big city as Alec calls it) to see a Red Claws game on Saturday night. The Red Claws are Portland’s NBA Developmental basketball team. I think this is their 2nd season in Portland and they play in the Expo which is just a tiny little arena. It kind of felt like a high school game. Alec thought the whole thing was pretty cool.
We had just as much fun waiting for the game to start as we did watching the game.
Yep- I’m a dork….I had him wear a basketball shirt!
Alec REALLY liked the cheerleaders. After the game he wanted to know where the cheerleaders were going….Erik said well they are going home and going to bed. Alec said “no –they are going home together and they will sleep together”. Ahhh the innocence. Erik on the other had just had a grin on his face. Apparently his mind traveled directly into the gutter. Erik’s response with a big grin “ I hope so buddy…I hope so.” Naughty!
The half time show was very impressive and definitely as entertaining as the game! Are you looking at the picture? All those kids (and they are young kids) are on unicycles! And they did a choreographed routine to music.
And then there was Crusher…the Red Claws mascot. Personally, I find him kind of creepy. I think he looks more like a bug. They have a slogan about “crustacean nation”…it was a little disturbing. “Welcome to crustacean nation” I kind of felt like I was going to be in a cartoon channeling SpongeBob or something.
We spoiled the boy a little and got him a red claw. I think he missed the point. He kept trying to put it on his head.
Good news..they won the game! At the end of the night, Alec said he still liked soccer better but basketball was ok. Personally, I was happy to be out and about and thought it was great way to spend an evening.
How did my baby get SO tall and looking SO old?
Please tell me it’s just the angle of the camera…….please.
Courtney, Noel and Leo bought Alec a Wee Ride for his birthday last year. Alec pulled it out for some fun the other day. He can’t quite figure it out because it has no pedals so he just can’t figure out what to do with his feet. It is suppose to teach balance but I think it has a done a great job of teaching him how to fall gracefully! But hey, he gave it his best shot!
He took it off road for a while.
When in doubt, just walk with it.
Maybe he’ll have a little more success in the spring!
Alec was busy the other day….we had the bike out, we played soccer, we played on the swing set AND Alec decided to make snow angels sans the snow. :) (Thankfully)
He’s ready!
Daycare has recently introduced Thursday Pre K sports camp. This past month has been spent working on soccer skills. Now, Erik and I have tried to get Alec to kick the ball around for a couple years but Alec would never do it. Apparently it became clear to Alec why you would bother to kick to the ball around when they started using soccer nets to score goals in. Mom and dad failed to explain the full point of the game. Whoops!
He still has trouble not picking up the ball and running with it. But hey, he’s come a long way.
After our walk around the Rachel Carson preserve we drove into Kennebunk to Mother’s Beach. I honestly don’t know if it is officially called that or not but it’s a favorite of mine. BEACH+PLAYGROUND=HAPPY CHILD! HAPPY CHILD=HAPPY PARENTS! It is small so the children can run free without worries plus it is on a point so there are water views all around which makes it very beautiful and a bonus of a playground –it’s fun! Win-win-win!
The waves were awesome!
Mya sitting nicely, Alec throwing sand. Figures!
I think Faye likes sand!
As we drove along Kennebunk beach towards home we saw lots of surfers. Pretty cool for Maine!
