We made our annual summer trek to Ogunquit last weekend to visit the playhouse and see their production of Willy Wonka. Alec has been counting down the days. He loves the movie.
It was only o.k. They usually do such a great job so I was a little shocked. I think they rushed the production and the kids could have benefitted from an extra week of rehearsals. There were forgotten lines and the director actually had to stop the show 2 different times.
Alec, as expected, was disappointed it didn’t follow the movie but it had enough of the same songs to keep him appeased.
We have gone to these plays for the past 3 years and hence, have watched some of the same kids grow up. There is one boy who looks exactly like our nephew Nathan. This year was no exception. If anything they look even more alike- the hair, facial structure, stance, and body size. It’s uncanny.
The sold Wonka bars during intermission and some had golden tickets in them. You could win tickets to future performances. What a cute idea.
We are going to another production at the end of the summer. I looking forward to seeing if, as the summer rolls along, the children get into their acting groove a little better. But for $10 a ticket it is great way to introduce Alec to theater.
