Pigs, Pork & Fu Manchu

We had some friends over for dinner last night. It’s pretty fun to get back into cooking and get a little help along the way. Alec is at the perfect age to help out with certain tasks. He asks lots of questions and he wanted to helped me make the bean dip. We took black beans, Greek yogurt, fresh garlic, onion, cayenne pepper and salt and blended them together in my mini cuisinart (I missed that little appliance). I think he ate the dip simply because he got to make it!

We had ribs for dinner. YUM!  In honor of the the pork, I made cheddar biscuits shaped in pigs!  Not sure Alec thought it was as funny as the rest of us!

Chocolate smores brownies for dessert. From scratch. Really..that’s a feat for me. I’m usually a box brownie type of girl.

If there was chocolate involved then you know Alec had to help. The picture is a little dark but I love the fu manchu mustache. Doggie helped too.

Jay is a friend of mine from my days working at the bank. When Alec was a baby and going through a fussy stage- Jay came over for a visit, he took Alec from me, took him in the bedroom and rocked him to sleep. Instantly.  Jay and Alec haven’t seen each other in quite a while (well over a year) but Alec took to Jay instantly again.  Within minutes Alec was on the deck explaining to Jay how there were berries in our backyard and the birds come to eat them, Then I found them playing Lincoln Logs in Alec’s bedroom …then playing the drums and making music and then running through the house playing hide and seek. I’m not sure which one of them had more fun!
