Sometimes when opportunity knocks….you shed your clothes and go for a swim in the rain. Especially if it is 98% and 100% humidity.

Do you think?
They ever imagined themselves at 40- still close friends –spending a week at the lake together surrounded by their children?
They ever imagined how much they would care for each others children or that the children would love each other as much as they do?
Or that their wives would truly like and appreciate spending time together?
Or that they would think it was hilarious to get matching shirts?
No, I think not.
And that’s what makes this all really special.

Back from vacation
I took 1300 pictures while we were at the lake. Yup- I know. That’s a ridiculous amount of pictures. I am in the process of of organizing and deleting although I hate to delete them. Even the bad ones. It’s hard – this sorting through all the fun.
This year’s trip to the lake came with a few more struggles, finagling and compromises than in past years. A full circle of emotions. What we ended up with is the just about the best case scenario one could hope for when spending a week in a house with 15 people. They all spent 2 weeks there- we only spent 1- and lady luck was on our side when choosing our week. Week 1 was cool and rainy. Week 2 was beautiful, hot and sunny. Can you guess which week we had? Possibly a little karma helping us out for the all the initial struggles in organizing this vacation.
We started renting this house in 2009 when there were 14 of us. In 2010 we took the year off because James was born- and now the final count stands at 15 of us. We went back in 2011. In 2012 it was sold to a new family and was being renovated so we went to the place on Sebago. Now in 2013 we got to go back. The renovations took this house from camp status to lake house status. While some of the changes were amazing – it was still a little sad to not to have the ‘campy’ feel.
It went from this ….
To this-
From this:
To this:
From this:
To this:
From this:
To, well ..they changed it up a bit…..one living area on one side of the house…
and another living area on the other side of the house. This second area was unused space before.
So many, many many changes. Some good. Some not so good.
But the important stuff has not changed.
It’s all about the love.
And the annual grumpy old men pictures. :)
Good times. Very good times.

Weekly Reader
We stocked up on books before our trip to the lake. We are still working our way through to meet Alec’s goal by the end of the summer however progress is slowing as summer is in full swing and we are filling up every waking moment with fun adventures. I think we both are enjoying this challenge.
You may notice- there is no non-fiction. Yay!

Ocean Park Ice Cream Shoppe
Next stop on our ice cream tour – the ice cream shop in Ocean Park. They have fabulous ice cream in a quaint little shop. Erik had never been there –and I had only been there once before. I need to go there more.
Our choices- Alec had Dino Crunch. Vanilla ice cream dyed blue- with chocolate swirls- and chocolate chunks. Alec added rainbow sprinkles to it.
I had Cinnamon Coffee Cake. I added chocolate sprinkles. It was AMAZING! As soon as I finished it-I wanted more.
Erik never gets a cone. He always has a sundae.
I think this is my favorite local ice cream place. I love the ice cream and the quaintness of the store. Thumbs up!~

What’s for dinner?
I haven’t posted much about food lately. I am not that much of a foodie so that shouldn’t be surprising but I made a dinner tonight that I wanted to share.
I pulled out the leftovers and farm share bits that are hanging around the house and made this completely amazing dinner for myself tonight.
I sautéed some garlic scapes in olive oil until super crispy- tossed in some broccoli, spinach, tomatoes and shrimp.
Added a pinch of salt and some shaved parmesan.
Tossed in with the pasta I made Alec.
There it was….done!
And oh so good.

4th of July Weekend Recap
With the mini heat wave that settled in nicely for the long weekend- we kept busy doing all sorts of fun things..mostly around the house near the air conditioner! ;)
I actually tried the riding lawnmower for the first time. I am now officially ready for the lawnmower races. Yee-haw!
Babysitting Paulina!
Wearing only a winter coat and underwear when it is 98% out. Doesn’t everyone?
The beach…of course….
The annual arrival of some favorite friends…and the start of the count down to the lake house.
Washing the car…
Slip-n-slide (which Leo again loved more than Alec)
What a fantabulous weekend!
