Pumpkinville

While we were in Olean we tool a little excursion to Pumpkinville in Great Valley.  That’s one of the things I like about western New York- there are some really great town names…Watkins Glen, Kill Buck, Horseheads – Great Valley. Then you have the Nine Mile Rd-the Five Mile Rd….

I digress.

It was a pretty but VERY chilly day.

092 094 095 My mom graciously (and because I never seem to have cash on me) bought Alec a wrist band to do all sorts of things. He really just wanted to play on the train. And that was free. Guess we should have asked him first huh?

Alec wanted to be in the cow right behind the tractor so he could check it out. Of course he did. This kid wants himself a tractor!

Debbie and Katie took Alec into the corn maze because neither of them had ever done one before. They did not make it though the maze….it was too muddy.

This place was big-besides the corn  maze and cow rides- they had a petting zoo, pony rides and a hay ride plus they had a BBQ pit, homemade ice cream, kettle corn and homemade donuts along with tons of apples, cider, jams and crafts.

Lots’o stuff.

They were yummy.

Erie PA

After spending 10 hours in the car on our way to Olean…the next morning Alec and I got back into the car and drove another hour and half to Erie, Pa.

Why?

For a little reunion.

See, Erie is half way between Akron and Olean.

A chance for the little boy cousins to spend a little time together. A nice little surprise for them! 275

It was a stunning ride.

276The Zoo seemed like a good place to meet up.

I struggle with zoo’s.I hate to see animals in pens and small enclosures.

It makes me cry.

Every time.

The boys enjoyed themselves- although I am pretty  sure you could stick them just about anywhere together and they would have been happy.

347 The zoo was decorated for their Halloween Zoo Boo. I think this made it even more fun for the boys.  We had a super nice time visiting, watching the boys explore, learning about animals and spending what little time we had –just being together.  It is so nice that so much time can go by and they can still pick up where they left off.

A little journey

Debbie, Alec and I shuffled back to Olean in early October. It was a pretty and very typical long ride.

A helpful GPS moment.

We went for several reasons….biggest on Debbie’s mind? Seeing her college girl. But first a quick stop to say hi to GG…

028and then we were off again to go find the girl…

In this picture Alec is chatting on my mom’s cell phone with Grump (who was still in Florida).  The moment he spotted Katie – he handed off the phone without saying good bye and took off running…

I think Debbie wanted to do the same thing but thought Katie might frown upon that…..but momma sure looks happy huh?

244 We checked out her room (she has a single….lucky girl!)

After checking her room out- Grandma, Alec and I went back to GG’s house to play and visit.  Debbie, Katie and a friend of Katie’s went to dinner. But this was not the end of our college visit….a few days later we came back to campus with the Simmons family for a little tour. This enabled us to further describe what college is to Alec. He hasn’t quite grasped the concept. The proud momma moment…when he had to see the pool. He could smell it and therefore wanted to lay eyes on it. Yep…that’s my boy.
