Zamboni

Way (way way way) back when I was in college in San Diego I had a roommate Sarah who introduced me to the group the Gear Daddies. They are the group that sings the Zamboni song. Possibly you’ve heard it?  They sing some other pretty good stuff too- my opinion of course. Anyway – last year at some point Alec learned the word Zamboni and I would sing (not very well) the song to him.  All our cd’s were in storage so I couldn’t play it for him and quite frankly (as I am not so web current) it never occurred to me to search for it on Youtube. This summer as we were unpacking I got the cd out for Alec and we laughed and sang the song.

Fast forward a few months to Christmas- my mother bought Alec a little matchboxish type Zamboni and then we went to a Pirates game and we got to watch the zamboni in action. Of course Alec has a million ‘why’ questions about the zamboni …but BONUS…they played the song during the game…we sang it…we got some strange looks from Aunt Pam and Katie but we/I kept singing…and now, of course, I can’t find the cd again.  But they have it on Youtube! For your viewing pleasure just click this link:  Zamboni Song  We have been listening to this multiple times a day. I’m a little tired of it now. But to hear him sing along warms the heart..like nails on a chalkboard. :)

Over the the past couple days we have ventured down to our retention pond which the neighborhood turns into an ice rink. I have had to explain multiple times to Alec why there are no zambonis for outdoor ice. He is persistent if he doesn’t appreciate your answer.

His interest in skating and hockey has grown. I think it is time to get him some skates!

He thought he was thrilled to get a bike

until he tried riding it.

Now…he’s not quite so sure. Some things come easily and some things don’t. I’m not sure this is going be easy for Alec. We’ll keep you posted on the progress. :)

Concert

While we were cooped up over New Years, Alec decided to put on a concert for his trucks.

How nice they all made an appearance.  Alec did not disappoint with his acoustics.

I was going to post a video I took of him singing Rudolph but you can’t really hear him. :(

Mind Reading and other miscellaneous musings

I’ve got nothin’ folks but some rambling……

I took Alec to the movies to see Tangled the other day with Ben and Noelle. I phrased it as ‘hey Alec would you like to go to the movie theater where we saw Toy Story and see a movie?”  He said sure. Off we went. About a third of the way through the movie he leans over and says “when does Toy Story start?”. hmmm..go figure he can’t read my mind and therefore doesn’t just know what movie we are going to see. Apparently an important part of managing a 3 year olds expectations is to actually give them the correct information. Duh.

Driving in the car yesterday Alec asked me if we could take Ben to Aunt Pam’s house. (Random) Why?  “I don’t know but I think he might really like it there”. Well ok then.

Alec has an unforgiving memory to put it mildly. If we drive by the church we took him to for Easter service when we was just shy of two he still asks us why there was a baby crying in there. (who knows?!). My mom knocked a head off a snowman once and he has never left her forget it. “grandma knocked frosty over…why’d she do that?”  Hannah popped his balloon by mistake. He had finally let that one go.  Before Christmas we (my parents, Erik and I) took him on the Polar Express train ride in Portland. They give you hot chocolate on the train ride and Alec spilled his all over himself. He keeps asking us “Remember the hot chocolate I spilled? Why did I do that?” Apparently he will never let himself live that one down. Sweet justice.

Alec.. as I am putting his jacket on at daycare.  “I’m on-call mom and I just got paged. Yeah…I paged Leo but he didn’t call so I guess Ben and I will have to do the job. My office is in the North Pole and we have to collect the trash and bring it to MERC.”  All in response to “Hey Alec what would you like for dinner tonight?”. Helpful. Real Helpful.

Yesterday when we got back from the movies Alec was solider – a bad mean solider who doesn’t eat dinner. (really dinner wasn’t that bad) This morning before he left for daycare he was Hard Hat Harry – a mild manner construction worker who said Leo called and all our windows and doors need to be replaced. (bite your tongue child!)  Tonight when we got home from daycare he was a fire chief who was building a bonfire and had to direct his gazillion fire trucks to put out the fire. When he goes through an identity crisis when he’s 25 –feel free to remind him he has options.

There’s more where this came from…there is always more. :)

Starting out the New Year right….

It was 55% (degrees for those of you who do not know my grandmother) on New Years Day. After several days of being stuck in the house with colds/croup we could no longer stand it. It was too nice not to be out and enjoy the mild temperatures.  Walking on the beach was sure to cure what ails us. Well maybe not so much because Alec and I are still sick but it was better than killing each other spending another day inside together.

New Years Eve…..

062

Croup kept the young one down for the count so Erik and I settle in with some takeout pizza and played the Wii for a while. We haven’t used the Wii this much since we moved out of our old house. I forgot how much fun we have playing it! I couldn’t get Erik to play DDR with me but we did have some fun Mario Kart races. We live the wild life. Really.

Happy New Year!
