I’ve got nothin’ folks but some rambling……
I took Alec to the movies to see Tangled the other day with Ben and Noelle. I phrased it as ‘hey Alec would you like to go to the movie theater where we saw Toy Story and see a movie?” He said sure. Off we went. About a third of the way through the movie he leans over and says “when does Toy Story start?”. hmmm..go figure he can’t read my mind and therefore doesn’t just know what movie we are going to see. Apparently an important part of managing a 3 year olds expectations is to actually give them the correct information. Duh.
Driving in the car yesterday Alec asked me if we could take Ben to Aunt Pam’s house. (Random) Why? “I don’t know but I think he might really like it there”. Well ok then.
Alec has an unforgiving memory to put it mildly. If we drive by the church we took him to for Easter service when we was just shy of two he still asks us why there was a baby crying in there. (who knows?!). My mom knocked a head off a snowman once and he has never left her forget it. “grandma knocked frosty over…why’d she do that?” Hannah popped his balloon by mistake. He had finally let that one go. Before Christmas we (my parents, Erik and I) took him on the Polar Express train ride in Portland. They give you hot chocolate on the train ride and Alec spilled his all over himself. He keeps asking us “Remember the hot chocolate I spilled? Why did I do that?” Apparently he will never let himself live that one down. Sweet justice.
Alec.. as I am putting his jacket on at daycare. “I’m on-call mom and I just got paged. Yeah…I paged Leo but he didn’t call so I guess Ben and I will have to do the job. My office is in the North Pole and we have to collect the trash and bring it to MERC.” All in response to “Hey Alec what would you like for dinner tonight?”. Helpful. Real Helpful.
Yesterday when we got back from the movies Alec was solider – a bad mean solider who doesn’t eat dinner. (really dinner wasn’t that bad) This morning before he left for daycare he was Hard Hat Harry – a mild manner construction worker who said Leo called and all our windows and doors need to be replaced. (bite your tongue child!) Tonight when we got home from daycare he was a fire chief who was building a bonfire and had to direct his gazillion fire trucks to put out the fire. When he goes through an identity crisis when he’s 25 –feel free to remind him he has options.
There’s more where this came from…there is always more. :)
