What a wonderful way to spend an 80% day in October. If only every day were this warm and pretty with such good friends.
Love it!

We drove to Brooklyn on Friday to visit my cousin Michelle, her husband Mike and their daughter Annabel. We arrived late on Friday. We had the worst ride to New York (any part of it) that we have ever had. Seems like it was wall to wall traffic from MA until we hit Brooklyn. I wish I had taken pictures of the city all lit up at night. Amazing. It’s been almost 6 years since I’ve been – I always get so excited to go the big apple. Michelle was kind enough to have dinner waiting for us – we had a late supper in and the kids stayed up late playing and getting to know one another.
Saturday morning we were up and out by 10 – the weather was beautiful. Both kids still looked pooped huh?
We headed into Manhattan to take the Staten Island Ferry round trip for Statue of Liberty viewing. It’s free, no crowds and a boat ride. Perfect for young tykes.
True to Alec’s personality he had a million questions but really couldn’t grasp what make the statue of liberty so special. In essence..a lot of his questions came back to “what’s the big deal”? Apparently we did not do a great job explaining it.
After the round trip boat ride we took the subway uptown for some lunch. All day I kept waiting for Alec to show some excitement over what we were doing but it never came. I should know better- that is not his personality. Even though he has ridden the subway before, I thought maybe he might just get super excited. Umm..nope.
Ummm…yum. We sat on the steps of Museum of Natural History and ate our lunch. The Shake Shack was Mike’s recommendation and it was super yummy. Greasy but tasty and the shakes were good too.
This is also the spot where Michelle taught Alec the Taxi song. Apparently the city kids learn this song at story time at the library. He hasn’t stopped singing it yet. After lunch we ventured into the museum mainly to see the dinosaurs. We are pretty sure this was hit. It’ll take few more weeks before he will start talking about anything that may have resonated with him. That’s just the way he processes. Drives me crazy. I like instantaneous feedback.
After the museum we were wiped and headed back to Brooklyn for the night. Oh and by the way..Alec does an awesome rendition of the Beastie Boy’s “No sleep til Brooklyn”. Sunday we headed out to Prospect Park for some playtime for the kiddos before we hopped in the car for the ride home. Cool factoid…Mo Willems lives near Michelle and Mike. All the pictures in the Knuffle Bunny books come from their neighborhood. The school pictured in the 2nd book is around the corner from them and Annabel will go there. The playground in the books…they were here. And we played on them. Alec thought it was super cool that he was playing where Trixie plays.
What a lovely neighborhood and what a lovely visit.
Thanks guys for a great weekend!
I’ve said it before and I will say it again…it is almost impossible to take a bad picture at the Scarborough Marsh. On Friday, Noni, Alec, Moxie and I took a little walk to enjoy the beautiful fall day. It was hard to tell who was more excited to be there-Alec or Moxie – they both were psyched to be free to run. And when they are happy, we are happy.
Moxie jumping (or sinking) for a bird….
A good/tiring time had by all.
