With school, soccer, swimming and friends it felt harder to get to the library the past couple weeks. Friday after school was rainy and dreary and so it seemed the perfect afternoon to head to the library. We walked in and we were greeted by familiar faces. It was our library friends! Nothing warms you up and makes you happier than to feel part of a community when you sometimes feel you are an outsider since you did not grow up in this small town. Sort –of like when Norm walks into Cheers (dating myself here!). I love our librarians who know Alec and I and can make recommendations on books for us (or put one aside without having to ask)- I never have to bring a library card (it’s the small things). I love our library friends that we seem to always run into there. They love books too. I love people who love books. We were all (young & old alike) chatting and it was loud! And I commented to one of the librarians “My- we are boisterous today”. And she just smiled and said “Better to have a loud library full of friends and happiness then a quiet and empty library”. Amen sista’! What a happy moment.
My picks for him:
Alec’s picks:
Nonfiction for obvious reasons:
We are over 200 for our 300 by Christmas goal. When Alec was younger and wasn’t in school I felt like I read him 300 books a week. I wonder how much I really did read? I know it felt like all the time. But was it really? I love this goal. It reinforces how important it is to read all kinds of books (short and long); to take stock of what his likes and dislikes are AND most importantly- are you really reading as much as you think you are?
