Mister Bones

Erik and I bought Mr. Bones for our 1st Halloween in our 1st house many moons ago. I have no idea what year we started to call him Mr. Bones but we did and it stuck.  He’s like a dear ‘ol friend greeting us during the Halloween season. He glows in the dark too – how cool is that?  We have this odd attachment to this particular decoration. I pulled him out the other day and Alec was having a good time visiting with “Bonesy”. And it stuck.

(And for the record I did not take this picture just for this blog –I took it for a whole different reason but it worked well here. BONSU!)

On our way home from the Y tonight (it was their Fright Night…pictures soon)we were all chatting about costumes. Alec was wearing his and was wondering why Erik and I were not wearing ours. I told him that I was waiting to wear my witch hat on Halloween (no comments people). Erik said he would find something around the house to wear for Halloween. I casually mention that Erik could use the old skeleton costume we have.

And we hear from the back seat:  “No Daddy can’t be a skeleton- Bonesy is dressing up as a skeleton for Halloween”.  “Oh and Spidery (that’s a whole other blog) is dressing up as a little spider and webby (that would be spidery’s web) will be a web.”

Yep it’s gonna be a rockin’ Halloween at our house. No one will recognize anyone!

Break Dancing

Ben came over for a little break dancing a few days ago!  (Try to focus on the children and not the mess!)

I didn’t want to but I did it anyway…

For a couple months now Alec has been asking to be the same thing for Halloween. When asked he tells everyone the same thing. His answer has not changed. AT. ALL. I’ve coaxed, I’ve cajoled, I almost even bribed. Really? You want to be THAT? How do you know what THAT is? It’s not something we watch or you’ve even seen really anywhere. Really? You want to be THAT? Are you sure?

Then on one of my many recent drives to Old Town it occurred to me: Why do I care what he wants to be? Yep it is a commercially driven costume. Yep- it is off the rack- not mommy made (who am I kidding I never made one in the past anyway?). Yep there will be 3 million other kids wearing the same thing.  BUT who really cares as long as he’s happy. And so…

I finally caved and bought the costume.

Most of you know what he wants to be. For those of you who don’t…guess you are going to have to wait. :)

But just so you know…he tried it on and he is an awfully cute _____________!

Ferry Beach State Park

Monday seemed like another good day for a walk in the woods. Alec and I took the Todd girls on a field trip to FBSP. We had a great (and a little wet) time!

A nice Sunday stroll

On Sunday we took a drive up to Freeport to Bradbury Mountain for a walk/hike up Bradbury Mountain. I love that park- it a solid family place with many trails, picnic tables, clean bathrooms and a playground. Plus – then you can go into Freeport and do some shopping afterwards. :)

Alec did a great job considering we took the mile trail to the top.I suspect Alec actually covered 2 miles. He was running back and forth and all around!  We took the 1/4 mile back down ( a little steeper but more effective for a tired boy).  He still had enough energy leftover at the end to play on the playground but not enough for any shopping after. :(

It was a beautiful day!

Northern outlook (below). We stopped and had a snack. I think the couple in the picture were on a date and not thrilled to have us with them.

Almost to the summit!

Awesome views! 082098

We took the blue trail on the way up incase you were curious! That’s how we kept him moving ..I SPY ….more Blue! And off he’d run! I think at one point there might have been a mention of a piece of chocolate at the top. Bribery? No…it’s called incentive.

Saco Pumpkinfest

Saturday was Saco’s 10th Annual Pumpkinfest.  Although we had a nice time, it didn’t seems to have the festival spirit it has had in years past. It’s usually a fun little festival where they shut down Main St. and have lots of games for the kids, a Hay Ride, vendors, pumpkins lining the streets…etc. We went around 4PM (it’s a noon to 6 affair)…in the past things would have been in full swing around then but this year everyone was packing it up and shutting things down. I saw no inkling of trick-or-treating at the businesses. We still had a nice time but it wasn’t FUN like in years past.

Here we go!

098They had horse and pony rides. This might have been Alec’s first ride…I can’t remember.  Turns out he really wanted to go on the little white one (behind him in the picture) – we just assumed he wanted to go on the big one. He still enjoyed himself.

111

I tried to get picture of him smiling but I am not sure I was successful. The horse looks thrilled huh?

113 There was a little display of pumpkins and we stopped to check them out and pick out our favorites. Alec likes the one with all the feathers.

116

We stopped to get Alec’s face painted. He chose a sun. He was probably so chilly that he was hoping it would warm him up.

The final product!

131

A little more walking around town…I do like downtown Saco. It’s a cute downtown.

132

We stopped at the touch tank. Alec did not care for holding the starfish.

135

We visited the pumpkin bowling. That was pretty cute and Alec really seemed to enjoy that. You’ll notice a couple kids behind Alec in costumes…most kids dress up for Pumpkinfest. Alec flat out refused to don his costume this year.

143

As we were leaving we stopped to watch a group of boys break dancing. Alec watched intently.

 141

And the picture missed (because there is always one) is Alec stopping to break dance on his own as we were walking down the street. Erik and I were amazed; he actually picked up a few moves and could really do them quite well. WOW!

Is it a kitchen or a truck?

073

We’ve always had a problem with Alec climbing on his kitchen. Cook on it? Ummm…never. We tried to fight it at the pink house but we lost the fight and got tired of yelling and consequences etc….so when we moved into the new house we decided to leave it out in the garage and maybe sell it. Well, it’s been a few months now and we didn’t have the gumption to sell it so while Alec and I were in Old Town Erik moved it back into the house.

Alec and I walked back into the house he looks at it and says “ Hey my kitchen…I’m going to climb it”.  Up he climbs and and commences ‘driving’ his truck.  Erik and I simultaneously  groan..sigh…and say “Have fun”.  And nope….he hasn’t cooked a meal yet…..but his truck does have a really neat cooler (the fridge) that he puts his drink in.
