The Good Times

During all the the really hard stuff over the past 6 weeks there have been some really good times too and interesting ones too.

We FINALLY started the work on our master bathroom! Yay!

Although I don’t really understand some things on Alec’s report card (Striking with Implements)- it was a good one and we were happy with it.

Leo and Courtney came for a visit and the boys got to spend time hanging out and playing. We even hit up a movie. The Muppet something or other.

Erik found some BBQ he really liked in Binghamton NY. That made him very happy. This man will go to the ends of Earth for BBQ.

Lots of family love at GG’s funeral. It truly was a celebration of life.

Every time I saw Alec walking with his walker the song “Everyday I’m shuffling” went through my head. Painful for both us.

We went to a Red Claws game. 1st one since 2010.The last time time we went Alec ate entire bucket of popcorn and puked (he had the stomach flu). Thankfully there was no barfing this time!

We play doctor/surgery/hospice house with Alec’s stuffed animals a lot. According to the professionals this is a good thing and he is processing all the events appropriately and we should encourage this play. Most of the animals have serious broken legs. Imagine that.

We are also super heroes too!

After an appointment one day, Alec and I hit up The Cookie Jar bakery in Cape Elizabeth (super yum) and then took a walk around the Portland Headlight. This is about 3 weeks post surgery and he had pretty much ditched the walker completely.

Alec lost his 3rd tooth. I was starting to get a little worried. All his friends had lost mouthfuls and Alec had only lost 2. But like everything with kids – they really do develop at their own pace and when the time is right it will happen.

The temperatures were continually below normal and just so chilly so we pulled out the messy train set to keep us entertained for a few days. But true to its name – it is really messy and we didn’t leave it up as long as we thought we would.

Swimming is good therapy for a healing leg.

A boys night with dad! Alec was super psyched to see the Monster Truck show. He LOVED it!

First time playing outside after the brake. (Thankfully that most of that snow has melted since then!)

A trip to the beach to do some metal detecting after a storm blew through the area. We found nothing. Boo!

Play dates!

Seeing the Lego movie and having the theater almost to ourselves! (It’s dark – I know)

Fro-yo. His was way too bitter. Mine was mostly toppings.

Not to get too sappy but these moments are the ones that kept our chins up and spirits high while the hits kept coming.

And thankfully April is here and we can start fresh with warmer sunny days.

Profound

It’s the only word I could come up with.

It sums up our lives lately.

The definition:

adjective: profound; comparative adjective: profounder; superlative adjective: profoundes

  1. (of a state, quality, or emotion) very great or intense. synonyms:
heartfelt, intense, keen, great, extreme, acute, severe, sincere, earnest, deep, deep-seated, overpowering, overwhelming, fervent, ardent

The past 6 weeks of our lives have been nothing but profound.

February 15th- Alec’s accident –big trauma to his little body. A lot physical pain to be endured. Amazing healing. Profound.

February 25 and March 4th. A mere 7 days apart. The loss of two amazing (great) grandmothers. Each vastly different from the other but yet similar in one of the only ways that matter. Their love of their families. The loss of these matriarchs in each family is profound.

March 15- Shania suffers the loss of her sight. Already having lost her hearing, this loss of sight is profound for her quality of life.

March 28th- Shania goes to heaven. The loss, for me especially, is big. She was my girl, my bud, my furball. The emptiness is loud. It is profound.

And with these moments there have been an outpouring of support and love that make each of these 6 painful weeks manageable.

It has been profound.

Oh Shania

The day she came to live with us:

She went through 2 towers while she lived with us. She never scratched the furniture. EVER!

She was not overly fond of Alec for first 3 years of his life but she never laid a claw on him.

They worked through it and they became buds.

Tiptoe through the Tulips

Tiptoe through the window

By the window, that is where I'll be

Come tiptoe through the tulips with me

Oh, tiptoe from the garden

By the garden of the willow tree

And tiptoe through the tulips with me

Rest in Peace Nanny.  We love you.
