A wintery walk….

We haven’t spent much time outside lately so I sweetly convinced Alec that a walk in the snow would be fabulous. I also somehow convinced him to wear a santa hat too.

We went in late afternoon – the snow stopped as we were walking but the gray skies stayed. It was silent, calm and beautiful. Then the strangest thing happened. We were walking back to our car on one of the paths and we started singing christmas carols at the top of our lungs(that was not the odd part…well…maybe a little) and we came across a photo shoot. Like with big white light reflector thingies and a poor model wearing a sleeveless dress and funky make-up. Crazy. And it was slightly embarrassing when we, I mean I, realized they heard us belting out the tunes.  Really very strange.

The 4 day weekend in 3 days

You know what wasn’t long? Our long weekend. Mother Nature cut our trip to Virginia short this past weekend. In honor of the whirlwind weekend I will give you the whirlwind pictures.

After a long car ride with way TOO much traffic (10 hours was 11.5) we went to the Simmons house for dinner. After dinner it was time for the hotel.

Hotels with glass elevators and pools are really cool.

Late night swimming is really, really cool.

Next morning – we went back to the Simmons’ house for some pre-church visiting. A few random pictures…

After the very long mass (sorry it was) –and very brief reception afterwards….Alec and I went to Hannah’s swim meet to meet Bruce.

We went back to the house for dinner and more visiting. After that -it was a 9:30 late night date with the hotel pool.

And then because of Cleon or maybe Dion- we had to cut our trip short by a day-and so morning came (way too early) and we hit the road…again for another 10 hour drive and thankfully this time there was no traffic so it really was only 10 hours.

In the holiday spirit

We (Alec and I) are in the holiday spirit. We took it upon ourselves to make sure that the house was decorated. We also took it upon ourselves to force Erik to decorate the tree last night. Erik is a little bah-humbug right now. Alec repeated that to Erik several times. (Kinda funny of you ask me.)

Our first family ornament. Awhhhhhh….

Just like in years past- it’s a little crowded at the bottom of our tree. Tis’ perfect to me. I am not changing a thing.

Alec is on a mission when decorating the tree. It is not about taking the time to look at the ornaments and talk about the story behind them. We tried to engage him in conversation about different ornaments. Nothin’ doen’ this kid would have none of that chit chat stuff…this is a task to him. He is all business. Get all ornaments on the tree. ALL.  We tried to explain several times that this tree is small compared to the live ones we usually get and there are too many ornaments to fit on the tree. He was insistent that they all go on.

We hid some. Shhhh…don’t tell.

Alec is thankful for…

This just came home from school yesterday.

On the left-

sno – snow: ugh! My opinion of course.

cat food: I cracked up and asked him why he was thankful for cat food. Apparently he is not. Well, he is, but really he meant our cat and for food in general. He was clearly not as amused as I was about this.

watr- water: It’s a good thing to be thankful for.

On the right:

dad (mom is hidden): good bonus points being thankful for the parents and all.

TV Toys: that’s a given for a 6 year old right?

Nachr: Nature- Bless this child. Nature makes his list every year.
