A playground with a view.
Saturday Erik was working on the house so Alec and I went out to run some errands. A bank run, a hair cut, packet pick-up for the mother’s day run..drudgery. So, since we were ‘in-town’ we went up to the East End (East end?) playground. As we know, I love a playground with an ocean view. I can not lie, playgrounds are not my idea of fun way to spend time, however, when Alec is happy and I have a view, it makes it a totally more enjoyable experience.
Alec was in heaven as he found an older boy playmate who was carrying and shooting a dart gun as his younger sister. I was not as amused. I ended the friendship early. And yes, Alec did ask me for a little sister after this trip to the playground merely so he could shoot at her. Ummm yeah, no sister. No guns.

Mother’s Day
As far as Hallmark holidays go, Mother’s Day is not a favorite of mine. But when you get flowers like these, your heart just melts a little.
And how about this?
We did the Sea Dogs Mother’s Day 5k. It’s been a few years since we did it and boy has it gotten popular.
Let’s start with, um, wow, I am OOS. OUT.OF. SHAPE. Well, I definitely have shape. It’s called round.
So,on that note, let’s focus on the “race”.
Alec ran his 1st kids run. We got down to the track as the gun went off. Instead of having him run around the track and onto Haddlock Field- we just had him cut out the track part. It worked out well.
All the kids running into the stadium.
Happy he got a medal!
So happy and proud of himself.
We met up with my college friend Stephanie who was walking with her mom. Steph’s into the marathon running world. She had already run 5 miles before this race. I think she was going for a run afterwards. I don’t think I like running that much.
And all the people and the beautiful sky. It was a great weather.
Crossing the finish line….Erik ran ahead to take the picture. Um…yeah…that says 48 minutes. We were not so fast as we mostly walked but did a few jogs stints. But hey, we got out there and did something and we finished!
The Sea Dogs Father’s Day 5k is in 5 weeks. I told Erik on the way home, well, we can’t get much slower, so I guess we have a goal to beat. He just laughed! We are all signed up…care to join us?

Tourist
On Saturday Erik was working on the house (yep it will be a theme again this summer) so Alec and I spent the day playing tourist. We traveled down Route 1 to Ogunquit to walk the Marginal Way path and visit Perkins Cove. It’s touristy quaint. It’s not the real Maine. It was a half-day mini vacation from the mundane.
The Cove
Below is Alec checking out the view. And he immediately started in with the questions. What do waves help us do? What makes them go? Where is the sun? (Good question..the sun was out when we left the house!) I thought I might had made a mistake taking him here. He exhausts my brain sometimes-so I did what any desperate parent would do when I didn’t know the answer “That’s a great question you should ask dad when we get home.”Hey-it bought me a moment of silence until the next round of questions started.
We saw some wildlife. He(she?) did some quacking at us. It sounded silly. We giggled. He quacked more. It was fun.
This house was interesting –they had great landscaping- fun bright colors and best of all a sign over their doorway that said “Dreams do come true”
And their view from the house was this:
Nice!
There were plenty of benches along the way to stop, rest and take in the view.
We were silly too!
After our walk we stopped in the candy store for some ‘penny candy’. Ummm yeah right. Many pennies later…..
We drove back up Rte. 1 and stopped for lunch at a local favorite that I had wanted to try for years.
Since we had some candy earlier….we took the doughnuts to go after we ate some lunch.
Back in the car, we chose to stop at Mother Beach to play off the candy and lunch.
And the best part of my day? The smiles. We had a great day.
